Start ups

Some of the most enjoyable and rewarding projects I have been involved with have been start-ups and early stage businesses. My involvement has included straight consultancy or advisory positions, raising investment, day-to-day operational roles and direct investment – often a combination!

When deciding which projects to get involved with I obviously consider the business case/plan/financials in detail and then – if it passes those tests – I apply my own “checklist”

1. Right organisation – must have a positive approach/culture; passionate about its people; ambitious with a “cause”/aim with which I can empathise

2. Right environment – positive and committed – fun and sense of humour – will I enjoy it?

3. Contribution – is there an opportunity to use my skills/experience – will my role directly contribute to the success?

4. Chance to learn – opportunity for me to develop and learn from the work and others involved in the team.

This approach works for me and is the result of learning the hard way!

If you have a project/business opportunity that you would like me to consider then please get in touch

Thanks
